Since 1884, Gir National Park has been the only habitat of the Asiatic lion. During the British Raj, lions were hunted mercilessly by the British officers assisted by the obliging Maharajas and Nawabs. Every Maharaja was proud of the number of lions or tigers he killed during his lifetime. This park is marked by a rugged terrain and the steep rocky hillsides covered with mixed deciduous forests. Besides lion, other important animals in the area are leopards, wild ass, numerous chital, nilgai, chinkara, four horned antelope and wild boar.

Gir National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the most popular attractions of Gujarat. Protection was first given in 1900, when lion numbers were down to a mere 12 individuals! By 1936, the number had increased to 250 animals and today there are a little over 300 individuals. There are guided trips available, to watch these magnificent animals from a very close range. Wildlife viewing in the Gir is best done, by driving around the forest. Government of India banned the hunting process in the area in the year 1960 and today with an approachable count of increase in lions the area is only available for photo safaris. The Gir National Park of Gujarat and its Lion Sanctuary is collectively known as the Gir Protected Area. Gir is also home to the the marsh crocodile. Gujarat State Forest Department adopted the Indian Crocodile Conservation Project in 1977 and released close to 1000 marsh crocodiles into the Kamaleshwar Lake. The Gir National Park at Gujarat also has three smaller wildcats such as the Jungle Cat, Desert Cat and the Rusty Spotted Cat. The forests of the Gir National Park has a rich variety of bird life.

It was added to the list of UNESCO's World Heritage Sites on 22 June 2014. The Rani-ki-Vav (the Queen’s Stepwell) is located on the banks of the Saraswati river and was initially built as a memorial to a king in the 11th century AD.

Location: Patan Gujarat India
Built in: 1022 to 1063 AD
Constructed by: Queen Udaymati
Best Season: Throughout the year
Open Time: Open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Queen Udayamati decided to build rani ki vav in the memory of her husband King Bhimdev I. King Bhimdev I was belonged to Solanki dynasty. Rani Udayamati has completed the construction of Rani Ki Vav in 1063. Bhimdev I was the son of Mularaja, the founder of the Solanki dynasty of Anahilwada Patan. The stepwell was later flooded by the nearby Saraswati river and silted over until the late 1980s, when it was excavated by archeologists. When restored, the stepwell’s magnificent carvings were found in pristine condition. The step well is an ode to architecture, a poetry in stone, a piece of ornamental beauty where sculptures speak to you from every panel and wall . Descending deep into the ground, the last of the seven levels merges with mother earth. You can see terraces or pavilions at each level supported by pillars, apparently more than 220 of them and over 500 sculptures decorate it.

Ran Ki Vav step well has more than 500 principle sculptures and over a thousand minor ones on the walls, pillars and beams. They combine religious, mythological and secular imagery, often referencing literary works sculpted intricately. Also there were Chambers built in the Rani Ki Vav. Here, the royal families rested in the summer months. The water from the well acted as the natural air conditioner by decreasing the heat and making the breeze cool. At water level one can see see, carving of Sheshashayi-Vishnu, in which Vishnu reclines on the thousand-hooded serpent Shesha. Some carvings in Rani Ki Vav resemble the mirrored textiles of the region. The step wells of Gujarat were not just constructions to collect water. These monuments were for the village people to socialize with each other. These wells also held a great spiritual significance. Designed as an inverted temple highlighting the sanctity of water, it is divided into seven levels of stairs with sculptural panels of high artistic quality; more than 500 principle sculptures and over a thousand minor ones combine religious, mythological and secular imagery, often referencing literary works. Rani ki Vav is a really excellent step well which is a must place to visit for anyone staying anywhere near Ahmedabad. Kumbhalgarh Fort is the second most important fort of Rajasthan after Chittorgarh. Located at a distance of 64 kms from Udaipur in Rajasmand district, Kumbhalgarh Fort is easily accessible from the city of Udaipur. Its construction is attributed to Rana Kumbha between 1443-1458 A.D. under the supervision of famous architect Mandan on the site of a still older castle which traditions ascribe to Samprati, a Jaina prince of the second century BC. It also served the rulers of Mewar as a refuge in times of strife. The fort also served as refuge to the baby king Udai of Mewar. It is also of sentimental significance as it is the birthplace of Mewar's legendary King Maharana Partap. The fort also offers a superb birds view of the surroundings. The fort's thick wall stretches some 36 kms and is wide enough to take eight horses abreast. Maharana Fateh Singh renovated the fort in the 19th century. It has seven huge gates and claims to be the second longest wall in the world after the Great Wall of China. The width of wall varies from 15 to 25 feet. Prince Udai who later became the successor to the throne also became the founder of the Udaipur City. Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (C.S.T) Mumbai - Also Known As Victoria Terminus (V.T) - Maharashtra - India

A UNESCO World Heritage site, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) also known as Victoria Terminus (VT) is one of the biggest landmarks and a historic railway station of Mumbai Maharashtra India. Located in the heart of Mumbai the CST is also a World Heritage Site declared by UNESCO in 2004.

Location: Dr. Dadabhai Naoroji Road, Dhobi Talao, Mumbai, Maharashtra
Coordinates: 18.9400°N 72.8353°
ECoordinates: 18.9400°N 72.8353°E
Built In: May 1878
Completed In: May 1888
Cost Of Construction: 16.14 lakh INR
Architect: Frederick William Stevens, Axel Haig
Engineer: Wilson Bell
Architectural style: Indo-Saracenic
Highlights: Victorian Gothic architecture, railway station and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Victoria Terminus (VT) now called Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST), was built to the design of the consulting British architect, Frederick William Stevens. Work began in 1878 and was completed ten years later. The station was opened in 1887, on the Silver Jubilee of Empress Victoria. On 2 July 2004 the station was nominated a World Heritage Site by the World Heritage Committee of UNESCO. The Heritage Museum has displays on the history of Indian Railways, old engine types, etc. There are interesting old photos, models, letters, artifacts and objects. It took 10 years to complete and was named in honour of the reigning Queen Victoria. In 1996 it was renamed to it current name. As a bonus, the museum is air-conditioned. The 19th century station stands as an example of excellent and advanced technical and structural solutions of that time. The most important intersection of this port city houses this railway terminus, which holds significance as one of the famous historical buildings of the city. Many scenes of the Oscar-winning feature, 'Slumdog Millionaire', were shot at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus and many more Bollywood films have been sequenced here.

It may also be considered an epitome of confluence of two entirely different cultures, British and Indian. Architects from the two countries exchanged notes andworked together to give a new look and style to Mumbai (then Bombay), including the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus. The station is among a series of Gothic public buildings that give South Mumbai its grandeur. A proposed extension to include the nearby Churchgate Buildings features on India's Tentative List. The C-shaped plan of the building has symmetry about an east-west axis. The sides of the building are beautifully designed with a high central dome at the center. The network of suburban trains (locally known as locals, short for local trains) radiating out from this station are instrumental in keeping Bombay running. This is Railway station and probably the only station which is UNESCO world heritage site. Was built in 1887 and its name was victoria terminus which was changed in 1996.

Gurudwara Bangla Sahib is located near the main Connaught Place at Delhi. People from diffrent religions and castes from arround world visit this holy place. One of the most important historical and sacred pilgrimage destinations of the Sikh comunity Where Guru Hari Krishan The Eighth Sikh Guru stayed during his tour to Delhi in 1664. Topped by golden domes constucted by white-marble gurdwara was built at the site where Guru Harkrishan Dev stayed before his death in 1664. The Guru Harkrishan Dev served many people affected by kolera and smallpox in his time in delhi. Embellished with golden dome and a flagpole with the symbol of Sikh contingent, the very first site of Gurudwara Bangla Sahib is completely mesmerizing. The gurudwara was set up by the eminent Sikh General named Sardar Bhagel Singh in the year 1783. It was he who supervised the construction of the nine shrines of Sikhism in Delhi. All this happened during the time when the Mughal emperor Shah Alam was at power in Delhi. As with all Sikh Gurdwaras, the delicious langar (food) prepared by gursikhs is also practiced here. Besides, you may also get to see Baba Baghel Singh Museum, a library and a hospital.

Fortunately both Raja Jai Singh and his son Raja Ram Singh were in Delhi at that time. When approached by Sikhs for help, they agreed to assist them in their predicament. Besides, the Khalsa Girls School is located in the adjoining building. A tank 225 x 235 ft with 18 ft wide Parikarma and 12 ft wide varandah along its three sides has been constructed entirely with people's contnbution and voluntary labour. There was a very small tank that was constructed in memoriam of the king over the well. The water is now regarded as a pious element and seems to have healing properties. This water is often consumed by the Sikhs back at home. Mirza Raja Jai Singh had made elaborate arrangements to receive Guru Harkrishan. Guru Harkrishan was received on the outskirts of Delhi like a royal guest of honor. Guru Harkrishan was accompanied by prominent Sikhs from his darbar and his mother Sulakhni. After the death of Guru Har Kishan Sahib, Raja Jai Singh dedicated his haveli to the sacred memory of Guruji and his compassion for the sick and poor. Since then, it is being known as Gurudwara Bangla Sahib and has been an important place of worship for the Sikhs and all.

Bibi Ka Maqbara Aurangabad - The Replica Of Taj Mahal - Maharashtra - India

Located 5 kms from the Aurangabad city, the burial place of Aurangzeb wife, Rabia-Durrani. Aurangazeb's son, Prince Azam Shah built it in 1678 in the memory of his mother Begum Rabia Durani. Aurangzeb was not interested in constructing this mausoleum and hence, he was not keen on spending much wealth.

Location: Aurangabad, Maharashtra, India
Coordinates: 19.90151°N 75.320195°E
Architectural style: Mughal architecture
Tombs Of: Rabia-ul-Daurani alias Dilras Banu Begum (wife of Aurangazeb)
Built In: 1661 AD
Cost of Construction: Rs. 6,68,203/-

Aurangzeb’s son built this monument in 1679 AD in memory of his mother Rabia-Durrani. It is an imitation of the Taj Mahal. Constructed between 1651 to 1661 C.E., Bibi Ka Maqbara was planned and erected by an architect named Ata-ullah and an engineer called Hanspat Rai. Situated in Aurangabad. Bibi ka maqbara is the fascinating item of Aurangabad to tourists. It is the tomb of Dairas Banu Beegum, wife of Aurangaseb, constructed by their son Azam Shah in 1678. The reason for this is that, despite the fact that it could not be an adequate competitor for the Taj, it is still a magnificent monument. Bibi Ka Maqbara has been set amidst picturesque surroundings, with the mountain ranges providing the perfect backdrop. The Bibi ka Maqbara, the sole illustration of the Mughal architecture in the Deccan Plateau was built in the model of Taj Mahal. Biwi Ka Maqbara is called mini Taj Mahal because both concepts are same while making. The creator of this tomb was the son of Aurangzeb, who built it to pay homage to his mother Begum Rabia Durani. A mosque is also present in the western part of the main construction, which is said to have been later added by the Nizam of Hyderabad that closed the entrance of the tomb from its western side.

The building is designed to be less opulent than the Taj Mahal although in truth it is almost as magnificent, with a similar group of four asymmetrically positioned white minarets around a central domed structure. It is believed that the marble for this burial chamber was brought from the mines situated near Jaipur and as per Tavernier, a renowned historian, approximately three hundred carts loaded with marbles, were seen by him during his journey from Surat to Golconda. This is worth seeing historical monument in the Aurangabad city. This mausoleum is replica of Taj Mahal due to this reason is known as Taj of Deccan. The Bibi ka Maqbara is copy of Agra's Taj Mahal. Tourists can visit here till the night. This romantic place is monument of love. It also shines like The Taj Mahal. Many lovers come here with their love. Everyone should visit once in life. The mortal remains of Rabia-ul-Daurani have been placed in a chamber, below the ground level. Surrounding them is an octagonal marble screen, which has been adorned with beautiful designs.
